Romance in Nivalis Nights develops through conversations, quests, and relationship choices. Build friendship with an eligible character, select responses that fit their personality, use flirt options when they appear, and watch for red-heart gains. Once the relationship has progressed far enough, the character can suggest a date. Some characters make an additional check-in before asking you out.
The important limitation is that there is no known universal point requirement or fixed conversation sequence that applies to every candidate. Not every friendly NPC can be dated, not every conversation includes a flirt option, and the known candidate roster is still a working launch-build list. This guide reflects the game as of October 1, 2026 and avoids treating an incomplete roster as final.
Eligible candidates can be romanced regardless of gender. Your choices determine whether a relationship becomes friendly, romantic, hostile, or something else, so the safest approach is to learn what a character values instead of selecting the same answer for everyone.
How Nivalis Nights Romance Works
The relationship system tracks how characters respond to your words and actions. During conversations, the Relationship Matrix can display changes in their attitude. Two indicators are particularly useful for romance:
- The green face represents Friendship. Responses that suit the character can increase this side of the relationship.
- The red hearts represent Romance. Hearts can increase when you flirt or agree to a romantic meeting or date.
Friendship and romance are related, but they are not identical. Ordinary conversations and quest choices can make a character like you without immediately creating romantic progress. Flirting becomes useful when the conversation offers it, but the absence of a flirt option does not mean the character is unavailable. Continue their interactions and pay attention to later opportunities.
The Known Characters menu helps you review people you have met. It can show a character profile, relationship bars, conversation history, and whether someone is ready to chat. Use it as your central relationship tracker rather than relying on memory after meeting several citizens.

The game contains many more interactable citizens than romance candidates. Being able to speak with someone or complete a quest for them does not automatically make them dateable. Concentrate on characters who have continuing conversations, personal quests, relationship indicators, and clear romantic responses.
How to Build Friendship and Romance
There is no single dialogue answer that works for every character. The minimum reliable path is to meet an eligible NPC, keep their relationship active, learn what matters to them, and choose responses consistent with those values.
-
Meet the character and complete the initial conversation. Their first meeting area is a useful starting point, but it is not a complete daily schedule. Once introduced, check the Known Characters menu for their profile and future interaction status.
-
Talk whenever the character is ready. The Known Characters list can indicate that someone is available to chat. A new conversation may provide relationship progress even when it does not include a romantic choice.
-
Complete relevant quests and requests. Romance develops both during and outside quests. Helping a character creates more opportunities to learn their priorities and can open later conversations.
-
Read the person before choosing an answer. Dialogue choices commonly present two or three responses. Select the answer that fits the character rather than the answer that sounds universally polite. A rebellious character and a corporate loyalist may react very differently to the same position.
-
Use flirt options when they appear. Flirting can add red-heart progress, but not every conversation allows it. Do not treat a friendship-only exchange as a failed romance attempt.
-
Watch the relationship indicators. Check whether a response produced Friendship or Romance progress. This confirms how the character interpreted the choice and helps you adjust in later conversations.
-
Accept romantic invitations. Saying yes to dating or meeting up can produce heart progress. If the character performs a final check-in first, confirm your interest rather than expecting the date invitation immediately.
Choices are part of the relationship route, not cosmetic dialogue. The main story follows a core arc, but individual decisions can shape relationships and expose different parts of life in the city. If you want to preserve your position before a conversation that appears important, the game allows manual saving from the Pause Menu. This is especially useful when you are unsure how a character will interpret two plausible responses.
Avoid inventing a routine around unsupported mechanics. No dependable universal gift list, daily romance schedule, or exact heart threshold is currently established. Conversation choices, quests, flirting, and visible relationship changes are the practical tools available in the launch build.
How to Get a Date
A date is normally initiated after you have developed the relationship through repeated interactions. The NPC may ask directly, or a quieter character may first confirm that you are interested. Because candidates do not all follow one identical script, reaching a date is about maintaining the individual relationship rather than filling a known global meter to a published number.
Use this sequence when pursuing someone:
- Confirm that the character is among the currently known eligible candidates.
- Finish their available conversations and relevant quests.
- Choose answers that reflect their established personality and priorities.
- Select flirt responses when the game presents them.
- Check for red-heart gains instead of assuming every positive response is romantic.
- Return when the Known Characters menu says they are ready to talk.
- Agree when they suggest meeting, dating, or confirming mutual interest.

Do not worry if several conversations produce only green Friendship progress. Friendship building is part of the route, and a flirt choice is not guaranteed to appear every time. Conversely, one successful flirt should not be treated as proof that a date is immediately available. Continue the candidate’s interactions until the invitation or check-in occurs.
Zaffer provides a useful example of character-specific progression. Their outlook is rebellious and opposed to CorpSec, so responses that support that side of their character fit better than corporate-aligned answers. Accepting Zaffer’s offer to create neon for the Noodle Shop is part of the route leading toward a date. This is an example of why understanding the NPC matters more than selecting a generic “nice” answer.
Currently Known Romance Candidates
The launch-build roster below is a working list, not a guaranteed complete catalog. Additional eligible characters may emerge as more quest chains and relationship branches are completed. The listed district identifies the character’s known first meeting area; it should not be treated as a permanent location or full schedule.
| Candidate | First meeting area |
|---|---|
| Agent Teleshko | Meridian Market |
| Cassius Pierrepont IV | Seaside Boardwalk |
| Cecil Grimes | Meridian Market |
| Deeala | Lowtown |
| Dr Fred Matombo | The Sewers |
| Garnet | Eastern Residential |
| Kenzy Voan | Central Canyon |
| Miso Baron | Meridian Market |
| Nabla | Hive Mall |
| Raluca | Lowtown |
| Reena “The Radiance” Coda | Lowtown |
| Rheno | The Docks |
| Sage Hullen | Helix Monumental |
| Zaffer | Lowtown |
| Zee Burke | The Docks |

You do not need to choose candidates according to gender. Eligible NPCs can be pursued regardless of gender, while the player is placed directly into the first-person experience without a customizable visible avatar. Romance availability is determined by the character and relationship route, not by selecting a player gender during character creation.
Use the table to find an initial introduction, then rely on the Known Characters menu for later interactions. A first meeting area does not establish where that character will stand every day, and it does not reveal every prerequisite in their quest chain.
Why Dialogue Choices Matter
The best response is character-dependent. The game asks you to infer what a person prefers from their dialogue, background, and current request. That does not always mean agreeing with everyone. It means responding consistently with the relationship you are trying to build.
For a character such as Zaffer, pro-rebellion choices fit their conflict with CorpSec and their identity as a street artist. A character aligned with the corporate side of the city may prefer the opposite position. This difference prevents romance from becoming a single repeated dialogue strategy.
Before committing to a response, consider three checks:
- What has this person said they care about? Their earlier dialogue is more useful than the apparent politeness of an answer.
- What are they asking you to support or reject? Quest decisions can express a position, not just complete an errand.
- Which relationship change appeared afterward? A green face or red heart shows how the game interpreted the exchange.
You can maintain friendships with characters you do not plan to date. Flirting is optional, and the official relationship design allows your choices to create romantic or non-romantic relationships. Do not select every flirt option merely because it appears unless romance with that NPC is your intended outcome.
Reasons a Romance Route May Seem Stuck
A delayed date does not automatically mean the route is broken. Check the relationship state and remaining interactions before treating it as a technical problem.
The NPC may not be romanceable
Many citizens can be spoken to, but only eligible candidates have romance routes. If an NPC is absent from the working list, that does not prove they can never be dated; it means their eligibility is not currently established. Avoid investing in a supposed route based only on the existence of ordinary dialogue.
You may be building only Friendship
Green-face gains show that the character likes your response, but they are not the same as red-heart gains. Continue looking for flirt options and romantic confirmations while maintaining the friendship side of the relationship.
The current conversation may not include flirting
Not every interaction offers a romantic response. Complete the conversation normally, continue the associated quest if one is active, and check when the character is ready to chat again.
Your answers may not fit the character
A generally friendly response can still conflict with an NPC’s values. Review their previous dialogue and choose a position that makes sense for that individual. Do not assume one political, moral, or business-oriented answer will satisfy every candidate.
The character may be waiting for another interaction
Some NPCs perform a final check-in before inviting you on a date. Others may need further conversations or quest progress. There is no established universal number of talks, Friendship points, or hearts that guarantees the invitation.
You may have declined a romantic prompt
Romance progress can occur when you agree to dating or meeting up. If a response asks you to confirm your interest, declining it may keep the exchange non-romantic. Use a manual save before an important conversation if you want the option to reconsider your choice.
Romance Details That Remain Unclear
Several common romance questions do not yet have dependable launch-build answers. These gaps should not be converted into rules or claims that the features are absent.
- The complete number of romanceable NPCs is not established.
- Exact Friendship or Romance point thresholds for dates are not established.
- A universal list of best answers for every candidate is not available.
- Complete quest prerequisites for every romance route are not available.
- A dependable gift system or candidate-specific gift table is not established.
- Exclusivity, simultaneous dating, breakup consequences, and long-term relationship outcomes are not established here.
- Complete daily schedules for the candidates are not available.
Because these systems are unclear, treat any route as character-specific. Use visible relationship feedback, complete available interactions, and keep a manual save before choices you consider important. Most importantly, do not assume that a missing guide entry proves an NPC is ineligible or that a feature does not exist.
